Crooked SmileSiler will be turning a month old on August 4th so I thought I would kind of recap how the first month has been. Siler has been a happy and healthy baby. She hasn’t been at all everything has been pretty smooth. Its really been neat to see how fast she has grown. When we brought her home the newborn clothes just hung off of her. Now she is actually filling them out and will soon be bumping up to a new size.

Noises

My guess is that most babies are like this, but it cracks me up at all the noises that Siler makes. All kinds of huffs, puffs and grunts. It easy to tell that she is gonna be just as sassy as her mom. Siler will start grunting, straighten out her legs and throw her hands up over her head. We know right then she isn’t happy about something.

Tired
People warned us that newborns sleeping habits are completely opposite of a normal person. It’s not that I didn’t believe them, but I thought surely that it wouldn’t be completely opposite. I was wrong. She stays up most of the night and then sleeps randomly throughout the day. Just last night I was up til 1am with her just waiting for her to go to sleep. Finally I gave up, let Jennifer take over and went to bed. I told Siler I’m gonna ground her if doesn’t get her act together and start sleeping at night.

Family
Jennifer and I knew that both of our families would be more then happy to help out with Siler. What I personally didn’t realize was just how helpful they would be. Jennifer’s parent have come from Searcy just to watch Siler for 3 hours while we went to a movie. My parents have stayed up throughout the night watching Siler just so Jennifer and I could get a full night’s rest. They have all been pretty amazing.

Stinky Butt
This is the current nickname I’ve given Siler for the time being (spoiler alert: she’s a poop machine). About a week ago I was up with her and it was sometime around 1:00 in the morning. Siler was a bit fussy so I figured she needed her diaper changed. I’ve got her legs straight up in the air trying to get her butt clean, when all of sudden she crop dusted me (farting so that the fumes land on someone). This was probably the greatest crop dust of all time. I could almost feel a light wind of air fart hit my face. Then about 3:00am she needed another diaper change. So again I’ve got her legs straight up in the air. Of course, she proceeds to try and crop dust me again. Except this time I’m standing a little bit further back so it doesn’t hit me. Then out of nowhere she starts shooting poop all the way across the changing table. Luckily it didn’t hit me, but it made a good mess. To make thing worse she started peeing before I could get the poop cleaned up. So now its 3:30 in the morning, there is poop all over the changing table and Siler has peed all over herself. You could say I was overwhelmed, so I immediately grabbed Siler and ran into the bedroom to wake up Jennifer. She handled it like a champ and had everything cleaned up within a few minutes while I was standing there watching in awe of her “Super Mom” skills.

As you can see it has definitely been interesting trying to take care of a newborn, but I wouldn’t change any of it. Its really nice to come home for lunch and get to hold my little Stinky Butt. It should be interesting to see what happens next month. I’m just hoping it brings more sleep and less crop dusting.
